Australia’s open roads aren’t just for humans, they make for some of the quirkiest pet tales too. Meet Pablo the Bengal, a 13-year-old travel-loving cat whose favourite companion isn’t another feline, it’s an adopted pigeon named Bobbi-girl, complete with custom-made pigeon pants.
Their caretaker, a solo traveller from the Sunshine Coast, hit the road in her caravan back in 2016 and never looked back. Pablo quickly adjusted to life as a “grey nomad,” rolling across the country’s diverse landscapes, from coastal forests to rural country towns. He’s more than just a pet, he’s a social butterfly on four legs. People invite him into their caravans, let him snooze on their beds, and admire his confident, well-trained manner.
Then one fateful day in Moss Vale, they picked up an unexpected hitchhiker: Bobbi-girl, a pigeon fledgling with an injured wing. Though initially unsure how Pablo would react, within days the two were inseparable, Pablo never once chased or hurt her. Now, Bobbi-girl roams freely indoors thanks to her specially tailored pigeon pants, keeping everything tidy while adding to the pair’s charm.
This unconventional trio has become a beloved fixture among Australia’s grey nomad community, and beyond. Pablo’s antics and their adventures are chronicled for over 2,500 fans on his Facebook page, “Pablo the Bengal Does Oz,” where people across Australia, and even internationally, track their journey with delight.
Their story highlights adaptation, unexpected friendships, and a generous dash of Aussie wanderlust. It’s not every day you see such an unlikely duo forging a path across the Outback, teaching us that bond and curiosity know no bounds.
